A Family Experience at SJLC

At Baptism, parents, sponsors, and members of the congregation receive God's promises and in response make promises to be His instruments nurturing faith of the one baptized. Confirmation is one part of that life-long sharing of God's gifts. Young people prepare to make their profession of faith and be commissioned into full participation in congregational life.

Confirmation at St. John's is a two-year program geared for 7th and 8th graders, which runs from September till the first Sunday in May.

We believe that the congregation is here to support parents in their role as the primary faith-shapers in their child's life, so parents play a significant role in our Confirmation program.  In addition to online instruction at home with parents, students meet in small groups with Jennifer Hills, St. John's Director of Youth and Christian Education, on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm.  Each unit, students and parents will also have a checkpoint session with Pastor Meehan to ask questions and see how things are going.

Over the course of the two-year program, students explore the six chief parts of Luther's Small Catechism, the 10 Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, the Apostles' Creed, Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confession and Absolution, as well as other key themes of Christian life. Our students participate in an annual fall retreat and spring mini-retreat.
