Confirmation

A Family Experience at SJLC

At Baptism, parents, sponsors, and members of the congregation receive God's promises and in response make promises to be His instruments nurturing faith of the one baptized. Confirmation is one part of that life-long sharing of God's gifts. Young people prepare to make their profession of faith and be commissioned into full participation in congregational life.

Confirmation at St. John's is a two-year program geared for 7th and 8th graders, which runs from September till the first Sunday in May. The course is held Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm, and is team-led by Pastor Meehan, Pastor Campbell, and Jennifer Hills, our Director of Youth and Christian Education. St. John's uses the series, Here We Stand.

Key to confirmation is the involvement of parents and other key adults in the life of our youth. Parents serve as parent guides of a small group of students. Over the course of the two-year program, students explore the six chief parts of Luther's Small Catechism, the 10 Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, the Apostle's Creed, Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confession and Absolution, as well as other key themes of Christian life. Our students participate in an annual fall retreat and spring mini-retreat.
